Book an open day: MA Open Days

New Designers stand 2024

Find out first-hand why HCA is perfect place to dive deep into your practice.

Postgraduate Open days

At HCA, you will join a dynamic post-graduate community set within a historic arts institution. Our Masters courses are designed to give you the independence needed really grow as a artist, while giving the support you need to take your work to a new level.

Open Events for MA courses are scheduled throughout the year, during weekday evenings to account for busy schedules. They are an informal opportunity for you to meet our course leads, ask any questions about the programme and visit the studios, and the wider campus.

We know life can be busy, and if you would like to arrange a call with a MA course lead, or a personal campus tour our Outreach Team can book one in for you.

What you can do

1. Course leader Q+A and studio tour

Small-group talks with the subject leader and current students, followed by a tour of some of the specialist facilities and tools you will be able to use on the course.

2. Opportunity to meet other post-grad students

Open Events are an opportunity to connect with other students across all four subject areas who will be starting in the same cycle as you.

3. Workshop tours

Many students use their MA to explore their ideas through new media or materials. Tour our specialist workshops, and meet the technical staff who can help you unlock new ways of working.

4. Student finance Q+A

Studying an MA is an investment in yourself. Ask any questions you may have about post-graduate loans and funding opportunities.

5. Pre-interview advice

There will be time to talk one-on-one with the MA course leader to help shape your proposal ahead of interview.

Experience a strong studio culture

At the heart of our post-graduate courses is a strong studio culture. This enables a vibrant exchange of ideas that will accelerate your own practice - but it also makes the campus a fulfilling and exciting place to be.

It is one of the reasons we encourage you to attend one of our Open Events and get a feel for the campus and connect with students from across our four post-grad programmes.

Open Day FAQs

Individual timings will be listed on the Eventbrite booking although MA Open Events  usually start at 5pm and run until around 7pm.

You can leave at any point, or stay later to talk individually with course leads.

You are welcome to just attend on the day, but you will be asked to sign in at Reception.

By booking in advance through Eventbrite, it speeds up the sign-in process and ensures you receive any information you may need via email before the event.

Absolutely. There's a lot to take in, so having someone to talk it through with can help.

Feel free to bring as many guests as you want.

Every year we talk to students who are still deciding which course is the best fit for their practice. There will be time to talk to multiple course leads during an Open Evening - as well as other students.

If you are torn between two course areas, it may help to have an initial chat with course leads over the phone to help you get the most out of the Open Event.

To arrange a call, simply email outreach@hca.ac.uk .

We pride ourselves as being an accessible campus that is welcoming to everyone. You can email outreach@hca.ac.uk with any specific questions, or to make any necessary adjustments.

There will also be the opportunity to find out more about HCA's support for students while studying. If you have specific individual needs, you can discuss these with the course lead following the main session.

There is plenty of on-site parking. As you pull in to our College Road campus you will see parking immediately to your left and right.
