In the past students have had opportunities working with Open Sky Productions, the Fetch, Ferral, Rural Media, The Courtyard, Birmingham Royal Ballet and various film productions to name but a few.

Following the course, students pursue various career pathways. Some continue with performance, while other recent graduates have gone on to become the Stage Manager at the Birmingham Rep, or to study an MA at East 15.

As a performing arts student, you'll engage in practical workshops led by subject specialists to develop essential skills for your craft of choice.

You will work on live project briefs that mirror industry demands, applying what you've learned in real-world contexts. Assessment will be varied, including performances, written work, and reflective practices. One-on-one coaching will support your academic and your career development. Additionally you will have the opportunity to engage in work experiences throughout your programme.

Assignments, especially in your third year, are designed to be flexible, allowing you to tailor your projects to align with your personal interests and career goals, ensuring you’re well-prepared for a successful career in the performing arts.

The course timetable is designed to mirror a professional rehearsal day, with skill development sessions in the mornings followed by rehearsals in the afternoons. This structure ensures that you not only build and refine your technical abilities but also have ample time to apply those skills in a practical, collaborative environment

Course partnerships

Hay Festival

Each year, our students collaborate with a director to create a family-friendly performance for the Hay Festival. Based on a theme or book provided by the international festival, you'll have the opportunity to bring stories to life. Past projects have included reimagined Shakespeare plays and original works inspired by children’s books, with students working directly with authors like Nicola Davies during the creative process. This unique experience blends creativity, literature, and performance, offering students a chance to showcase their talents on a renowned platform.
