Student working in a ceramics class

This course is tailored to those who have already completed the beginner’s course, or who have good knowledge of ceramic processes and techniques.

Overview

This course is your gateway to exploring ceramics with a personalized touch. Tailored to your interests, we'll organize demos based on what you want to learn, giving you the freedom to explore your ideas with expert guidance.

You'll dive into advanced glazing techniques, experiment with different types of clay, and gain hands-on experience that enhances your creativity. Basic materials are provided to get you started, and we'll advise on any additional supplies needed as your projects evolve.

If there's a specific technique you're eager to learn, let us know in advance, and we'll do our best to include it. This course is all about helping you develop your skills and artistic vision in ceramics.

What we do...

A woman in a colourful waistcoat is rolling out a slab of clay. She is leaning over the work and there are people also rolling out clay behind her, out of focus.
A student is kneading clay. Their hands are messy from the clay and they are mid-action.

All sessions will be held in the Ceramics workshop at our Folly Lane Campus. Sessions will start at 6.30pm and will finish at approximately 9pm.

About the Tutor...

Lucy Baxendale works on a ceramic sculpture in her home studio.

Lucy Baxendale is a Ceramicist, Illustrator, and Community Artist from rural Herefordshire. She transforms her sketches into unique 3D sculptures, where lines evolve into stories.

Her work bridges imagination and reality, featuring unglazed, stained surfaces that capture the essence of a sketch. Lucy’s playful approach invites you to see drawings come to life in new, unexpected ways.

Recognized as Craft and Design magazine’s “One to Watch” in 2011 and one of Ceramics Monthly’s Emerging Artists in 2022, Lucy continues to refine her practice.

The ceramics short course has been an absolute dream. Lucy is so knowledgeable and supportive, she's really encouraged me to find my own personal style which has been a magical experience. I would recommend it to anyone considering getting into clay.
