How much does is cost to study an MA?


The tuition fee for 2025-26 has been set at £7,500 or £9,000 depending on which course you are studying 

There may be some extra costs involved such as course books or materials.

Bursary for recent HCA degree students


There is an internal progression bursary that reduces tuition fees to £6,600 for HCA graduates.

To qualify, you need to have completed an undergraduate course at HCA within the last two academic years.

Funding opportunities

Postgraduate Loans are available from Student Finance England of £12,471 (2024-25) as a contribution towards course and living costs. If you are studying over two academic years, the loan will be paid equally across 2 years (MA Contemporary Crafts). Each year’s amount will be paid in three instalments 33%, 33% and 34% directly to you. 

Students must be aged under 60 years old at the start of the academic year to be eligible for a Postgraduate Loan. 

You should be able to apply for a Postgraduate Loan from the end of June 2025. For more information about Postgraduate Master Loans, please visit www.gov.uk/masters-loan 

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSAs) may be available if you have a disability or a specific learning difficulty including dyslexia. DSA’s do not depend on your household income and what you receive depends on your individual needs. FAQs

Payment of tuition fees can be made in one amount before the course starts by bank transfer, or, you can pay in instalments by direct debit. 

Students can apply for a Postgraduate Masters Loan of up to £12,471 (2024-25) from Student Finance England to contribute to their tuition fees, study costs and living expenses. 

However, your eligibility will depend on your course, your age and your nationality or residency status. 

  • Your teaching and technical instruction 
  • Access to, and use of relevant workshops and equipment 
  • Access to, and use of relevant equipment in studios, including computers 
  • Materials used as part of timetabled workshop inductions 
  • Access to, and use of recycled materials within workshop areas 
  • Access to Academic Registry and Student Support 
  • Access to Careers Advice 
  • Access to professional business expertise and support through the Ideas Factory which develops participation in ‘live’ course projects with business 
  • Access to the specialist HCA library and associated resources 
  • Some local study visits 
  • Exhibition opportunities 

This loan has to be repaid, but only after you have finished your course and are earning more than the repayment threshold per year, then you pay back 6% of your income above the repayment threshold. For more information click here
