Student culture on and off campus

HCA’s student culture is thriving on and off campus. An active Student Union runs everything from drag nights to candle-lit dinners, while the college is at the heart of the art and culture scene in the city, with pop-up exhibitions and public art commissions putting student work at the centre of city’s identity.

From Open Studios and Drawing Clubs to pop-up exhibitions and open mic nights our campus culture is all about meeting new people and getting inspired.

Cross-course connections

The scale and style of teaching at the college is designed to foster connections and collaboration across courses. As a professional (and a human) you don’t just work with other games designers or textile artists.

That is why at HCA you will have the opportunity to embrace interdisciplinary creativity by working alongside students from other courses through specific modules in Year One to major public exhibitions and international trips.

This is a community you can make your own - and a way of building a really strong creative network before you graduate.

A good community is a great foundation for your happiness

You want to be happy where you study, and we’re proud to be among the highest student satisfaction scores in the UK, year after year.

Staff are a big part of those scores and in recent years HCA has scored nearly 10% above the rest of the sector with how students feel teaching staff support their learning.

Making sure you get the access and support you need - when you need it - is a big part of why students love the experience of studying at HCA.

The culture at HCA is incredible. Everyone is so friendly - its a really loving, caring environment and perfect for understanding your creative identity and your needs as an artist or designer.
