To commemorate the 900-year anniversary of the Hereford May Fair and the 400-year anniversary of the Black & White House, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design students were tasked to create a repeat pattern of 6 colours that could be realised in 40mm satin ribbons each approximately 3 meters in length.

Olivia Burnett’s design was selected to be taken forward and installed as a colourful ribbon skirt to the exterior of the house on Thursday 29 April.

Olivia said ‘I spent some time researching Hereford May Fair online and selected a series of images that were a good representation of the colour and pattern once the fair comes to town. From this I imported the colours and patterns into some computer software and extracted the most dominant colours to explore as a linear vertical pattern. At this point I experimented with various combinations until I found a harmonious balance that I felt would form a colourful patterned skirt to enhance the black and white geometry of the house.’
