Biography

Katerina Knight is an award winning English Textile Artist and Journalist.

In Katerina’s personal practice she works with homegrown and locally foraged organic materials, creating one-of-a-kind textile artefacts. In combination with slow, intricate hand processes of stitch, needle lace and natural dye. Connecting ecology with craft, Katerina invites dialogues of healing and spirituality to be shared through slow textile making.

Initially training at The Glasgow School of Art on the BA (Hons) Textiles programme. Katerina specialised in printed textiles and then went on to work in luxury fashion in London and Stockholm. Working with brands Renli Su, Wright Le Chapelain and Acne Studios.

Awarded the Burberry Design Scholarship in 2021, Katerina returned to her studies, completing her Masters in Textiles at the Royal College of Art London. Katerina’s practice has been kindly supported by The Textile Society, The Clothworkers Company and Batsford Books.

Working at the forefront of regenerative textile futures, Katerina presented work at Dutch Design Week 2023 with the New Order Of Fashion studio. Her pivotal work ‘The Healing Lace’ was shortlisted for The Dorothy Waxman Prize 2023.

Outside HCA Katerina works in Textile journalism; she is a published writer, featuring in publications such as Embroidery Magazine and Selvedge, where she also works as an Editorial Assistant.

Through each area of work, Katerina endeavours to improve the future of textile practices by listening, connecting and sharing the wisdom rooted in ancient textile craft and our Earth.
